Ernest J "Ernie" Wesolowski Verie Collection |
I first joined the National Radio Club in 1958, after the urging by my lifelong friend Carl "Murray" Mann, who, as our newspaper delivery boy, once asked for what purpose were all the wires attached to our house and adjacent trees. In 1959. I assisted Marvin Robbins in hosting the Annual NRC convention held in my hometown of Omaha, NE. I began my radio hobby, first DX'ing on the Shortwaves, and then moved to the Broadcast Band. Over the years, I accumulated more than 2,100 verification letters and cards, all while DX'ing from Omaha. The only State I was never able to log on the BCB was Alaska. Among my best catches are 4YA-780 in Dunedin, New Zealand and Dakar, Senegal in Africa on 764 KHz I always made it a standard practice to be sure all that of my reception reports were mailed within 24 hours of the logging. In 1991, I retired after a 30-year career in the Cable Division of Western Electric Company. I have always enjoyed traveling, both in this Country and abroad. I have taken literally hundreds of photos of radio stations during my travels. Since joining the NRC in 1958, I attended most all the annual conventions, and in addition to the Omaha Convention in 1959, I also hosted conventions in Lincoln in 1977, Omaha in 1992, Omaha again in 2011, and Kansas City in 2016. It is too bad we don't have conventions these days; I miss attending them. BCB DX’ing has been a great hobby, and the NRC has been a wonderful organization to enjoy with its many fine members .
